Scope

This is the Scope of the Open Aquarium Project Working Group, as referred to in the Community Specification License 1.0. It sets the bounds of the patent commitments made by contributors and licensees.

The Working Group develops specifications, guidelines, and best practices for aquatic systems (aquariums, ponds, and similar systems in which people keep aquatic organisms) and for the equipment, software, and data used to monitor, control, and maintain them. This includes:

  1. data models, data formats, identifiers, and registries for describing aquatic systems, their equipment, measurements of water and its environment, water analyses, and husbandry activities;
  2. protocols and application programming interfaces for the discovery, monitoring, configuration, and control of such equipment;
  3. electrical, mechanical, and connector interfaces between controllers, modules, sensors, actuators, and power equipment used with such systems;
  4. required behavior of such equipment and interfaces on failure, including loss of power, communication, control, or sensing;
  5. the design and implementation of such equipment, including its electrical, mechanical, optical, and firmware design, for example pumps, lighting, heaters, dosing equipment, sensors, and controllers;
  6. husbandry practices for aquatic systems, including recommended values and ranges for water parameters, and procedures for testing, dosing, feeding, and maintenance; and
  7. conformance criteria, test methods, and test materials for the above.

Any changes of Scope are not retroactive.

Everyone is welcome.
